Kate Waterford leads our medical negligence practice, alongside a broader personal injury practice, which includes public liability, birth trauma, wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases.

Kate grew up in Canberra and is active in the local community, particularly through her volunteer work. She sits on and chairs various boards in the healthcare and broader not-for-profit sectors. Kate earlier worked as a university lecturer and academic; and as a senior legal and policy adviser to educational institutions and not-for-profit companies. She speaks fluent Spanish and several other languages.
Kate is the current author/editor of the ‘Medicine’ title in the legal encyclopedia Halsbury’s Laws of Australia, an authoritative and comprehensive guide to Australian health law.
In her medical negligence and personal injury practice, Kate enjoys having the opportunity to help people whose lives have been devastated by injury.
Kate joined the Maliganis Edwards Johnson partnership in 2022.
