Craig grew up in both country New South Wales and Canberra. He attended high school in Canberra and then in the United States for one year. He completed an Arts degree at the Australian National University (ANU), majoring in History and Political Science and went on to obtain his Law degree, also from the ANU.
In his early career Craig worked in property, family law, litigation and criminal law.
Over the past 20 years Craig has developed a specialised role in personal injury law in the ACT. He has been a member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance (formerly the Australian Plaintiff Lawyers Association) since its inception.
Craig is a strong supporter of the Aboriginal art movement. He is also interested in Australian history and conservation and is a sports enthusiast, though now from the sideline.
