Law Update – Historical Child Abuse
The amendments mean claims can now also be brought for physical abuse and survivors can apply to have previous settlement agreements set aside, if it is just and reasonable to do so.
MEJ welcomes these changes and is proud to have played a part alongside survivors and their supporters to lobby for their adoption. These amendments will mean that the ACT is now in line with many other jurisdictions and is another important step in the right direction for victims of childhood abuse.
Our team will continue to work towards improvements in legislation and providing the best legal support for victims of historical child abuse. If you would like to learn more or connect with us for support, contact us via phone on 02 6257 2999 or send us an email.
