Two new additions to the MEJ team
We wanted to welcome and introduce some new team members, Xuan (Justin) Ji and Samuel Wolfhagen, who have joined the team to work on public liability, motor vehicle accident and institutional abuse claims.
We asked them a few questions so you can get to know them:
What inspired you to pursue a career in law?
Justin: I always want to give back to the community. In my opinion, helping people understand their rights and obligations in their daily life is the most direct way to achieve that.
Samuel: I chose law because I was drawn to hearing people’s stories, finding the counterargument, and I have always had a strong reaction to injustice. It felt like the perfect career for me to be able to help people to navigate the legal system in both small and large ways.
What is your passion or area of expertise?
Justin: My passion is to advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable, empowering them to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. As a young lawyer, I am also excited to work across a range of areas with the experienced team at MEJ.
Samuel: I’m passionate about the advocacy aspect of legal work, whether that is in court, in a settlement conference, or simply in meetings with clients.
What would you say to someone nervous about seeking legal advice?
Justin: Seeing a lawyer for the first time can be a daunting and overwhelming experience, but remember, we are here to help and we will always act in your best interest.
Samuel: There are no silly questions. Your problems and worries matter. You deserve legal help.
What is something you do to unwind?
Justin: I play sports with friends, including tennis, AFL and basketball.
Samuel: I love riding my bike. It’s easy to feel disconnected from everything around you when work is full on, but it’s hard to be disconnected when you ride through a flock of galahs in O’Connor or see the first ducklings of Spring!
What will you be focusing on in 2023 at MEJ?
Justin: This year I will be focusing on learning from my colleagues who work across many different areas of law.
Samuel: Alongside solidifying the task-planning and administrative side of my practice, I want to spend as much time to focus on clients as possible.
