MEJ Charity Spotlight – ACT Pet Crisis Support and Hands Across Canberra
The latest charities featured in our monthly spotlight are ACT Pet Crisis Support and Hands Across Canberra. Every month, we are excited to share the great work of some wonderful not-for-profit and charity organisations, and how they make the Canberra community a better place.
This month, ACT Pet Crisis Support was chosen for their work to provide subsidised veterinary care for disadvantaged, low-income pet owners who have no other options to care for their pets. They are dedicated to avoiding euthanasia purely on economic grounds by providing alternative options for care.
The organisation was nominated by Law Clerk Alyssa Bozinovska for helping keep families and their pets together.
“Without organisations like ACT Pet Crisis Support, many pets would be untreated due to economic hardship,” Alyssa says.
“I appreciate and value the work that ACT Pet Crisis Support provides to the Canberra community and the chances they provide to the families doing it tough and the pets that deserve to live a long, happy, and healthy life. This organisation is so meaningful as animals will always hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of many.”
The second charity chosen was Hands Across Canberra which supports over 350 local charities and community organisations which work with a diverse range of people in need. Sadly, not all charities enjoy the same level of community support and awareness, and lesser known or local charities can often struggle to get the support they need to carry out the important work that they do.
This charity was nominated by an anonymous MEJ team member for their positive impact on vulnerable locals.
