MEJ Charity Spotlight – Karinya House and Roundabout Canberra
The MEJ team are proud to be active members of the Canberra community. Each month the team selects two charities that help make our city, and the wider region a better place. The charities featured in this spotlight are Karinya House and Roundabout Canberra.
Karinya House is a local, community based, not-for-profit organisation providing safety, shelter and a positive support network for women since 1997. Their 24 hour, seven-day-a-week service is the only service of its kind specifically for women in the region who are pregnant or parenting, which includes assistance relocating in emergencies, finding suitable health professionals, and managing difficult family circumstances.
MEJ Law Clerk Neve Lawson says they are a deserving charity, because of the continued positive impact they have on women in Canberra and the wider region.
“I chose Karinya House because I believe they are helping people at their most vulnerable. That is a privilege that we also get to do here at MEJ.”
The second charity chosen this month is Roundabout Canberra. Team member Sam Menager chose to nominate this not-for-profit community based organisation for their continued work to provide vulnerable young children and their families in Canberra with safe, high quality, essential baby and children’s items.
“Every child deserves the right to clean, safe and essential items to support their wellbeing and development.” Sam says.
“Roundabout Canberra is a great service that provides practical support to Canberra families that need it most.”
