Each month, we love shining a light on the organisations making a real difference in our community, and this month two members of the MEJ team have chosen causes close to their hearts.

Bravehearts

Our first spotlight this month goes to Bravehearts, nominated by Personal Assistant Pamela Andre, who isn’t just championing the cause, she’s lacing up her runners for it.

Pamela will be taking on 14km in the 777 Bravehearts Marathon Canberra on 4 July in support of the organisation’s vital work protecting children from sexual abuse.

“I’m glad to participate in the 777 Bravehearts event and be able to contribute to such a noble cause that helps children feel safe, supported and protected from sexual abuse,” says Pamela.

Bravehearts is one of Australia’s leading child protection organisations, providing education, counselling and support services to children and families affected by child sexual abuse. Their work spans prevention, early intervention and long-term support, because every child deserves to feel safe.

Toora Women

Our second spotlight this month goes to Toora Women Inc, nominated by Law Clerk Neve Lawson.

“I was drawn to Toora Women Inc for its holistic approach to supporting vulnerable women,” says Neve. “My work at MEJ has emphasised to me the importance of emotional support and connection for those facing difficult situations, and I believe Toora Women provides a vital service to assist Canberra women to rebuild their future.”

Toora Women is a Canberra-based organisation providing specialist, trauma-informed support to women who have experienced homelessness, family violence, mental health challenges or other forms of trauma. From supported accommodation to counselling and community programs, they walk alongside some of the most vulnerable women in our community, helping them find stability, dignity and a path forward.

We spotlight local charities each month, giving our team the chance to celebrate the people and organisations making Canberra a better place to live. Keep an eye out for our next spotlight via our Facebook and LinkedIn pages.
